Next Steps
TO A HEART TRANSFORMED
Salvation Prayer
(Only pray this prayer if you are ready to give your life (everything) to follow the ways and teachings of Jesus.)
Pray this out loud :
Dear heavenly Father, you said in the Bible if you declare with your mouth “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved, Romans 10:9-10. I believe in my heart Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe that He was raised from the dead and for my justification, and I confess Him now as my Lord.
Because Your Word says, “With the heart man believes unto righteousness,” and I do believe in my heart, I have now become the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). . . and I am saved! Thank you, Lord!
If you’ve already been saved, it’s important that you not just have faith now but continue in it. If you want to see change in your life and in the fruit you produce, these are the next steps to take after receiving salvation:
1. READ THE BIBLE
Read your Bible (start with the New Testament). The word of God is spirit and life. It’s your spiritual food. What happens to your physical body if you don’t eat? You get weak, malnourished and you will eventually die. It’s the same with your spirit. You needs the food of God’s word to keep your spirit strong and healthy.
2. PRAY
Just talk to God like you would your best friend. He knows you better than you know yourself. God talks to you through His word, the Bible, and your spirit. He longs to hear your voice and He can’t wait to speak back to you.
3. COMMIT TO A LOCAL CHURCH
Find a good church. It’s sad to say not every church is good. Find one that loves you and is teaching the Bible and don’t let the devil keep you out of church. Be aware that he will always come up with a reason to keep you from going. Now that you are aware how, be determined that he won’t keep you from going. It may take a while to get into the habit of going to church. Don’t let missing once keep you from going back.
4. GET BAPTIZED IN WATER
Water baptism was set forth by Jesus Himself. It is a holy sacrament of the church and an experience with God. The Bible teaches that the following happens in water baptism:
1) We die with Jesus (Romans 6:3)
2) We are raised with Jesus (Colossians 2:12)
3) Our hearts are circumcised (I Peter 3:21)
4) We are baptized into the body of Christ
5) We are baptized into Christ Himself (Galatians 3:26-27)
5. BE BAPTIZED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
Imagine having the same power that raised Jesus from the dead living inside of you every day! That power is the Holy Spirit and the Spirit longs to use your life. Remember it was the power of the Holy Spirit that charged Jesus’ ministry while He walked the earth and He longs to empower you as well. The empowerment of the Spirit is meant to bring glory to Jesus in you and through you (John 16:13- 14). All you have to do is simply ask to be filled and receive this gift from the Lord.
6. RUN TO GOD WHEN YOU MESS UP
When you mess up (we all do), don’t run from God, run to God every time. He loves you no matter what. 1 John 1:19 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Every single time. God doesn’t want you living in shame and condemnation. So come to him and receive the forgiveness he has waiting for you.
7. FIND CHRISTIAN FRIENDS
Find Christian friends to hang out with; ones that are following Jesus. Who you hang out with matters. The Bible has many scriptures that talk about how being around ungodly people will tempt you to do bad things. It’s better to have no friends than have ones who are a bad influence. Ask God to help you find them!
